Research facilities

Leiden University, TU Delft, Erasmus University Rotterdam, Leiden University Medical Centre and Erasmus Medical Centre have many research facilities. Most of these facilities are accessible and available for external users: users from other departments, faculties, universities, colleges, but also from companies. Our facilities are an important element of the regional innovation ecosystem. By sharing research facilities with internal and external parties we stimulate cooperation and aim for new scientific and economic opportunities.

Open Access Research Infrastructure
On this website you can find information about accessible research infrastructure of the Faculty of Science of Leiden University. 55 research instruments can be found by searching for a specific instrument or technique, by application or by facility and service.

Delft University of Technology

Else Kooi Laboratory
The Else Kooi Laboratory and its staff aim to provide micro fabrication capabilities that facilitate excellence in (sub)micro-fabrication oriented research& science, enable customers to test out concepts that may lead to business successes (up to and including small scale production) and build a bridge between academics and industrial innovation. In terms of facilities, processes and expertise, the lab is superbly equipped for micro-manufacturing at the cutting edge of integrated circuits, micro-electromechanical systems and working with flexible substrates.

The INSYGHTLab of the TUDelft is a highly visible facility which hosts experimental installations for display and interaction hard- and software. This showcase lab facility is focused on interdisciplinary research on computer vision, interactive intelligence and visualization.

Kavli Nanolab Delft
Kavli Nanolab Delft is the research facility for nanofabrication at TU Delft. Together with TNO,  Kavli Nanolab uses the cleanroom facilities of the Van Leeuwenhoek Laboratory (VLL), one of the largest nanotechnology research cleanroom in Europe. The Kavli Nanolab facility provides a technological infrastructure for the fabrication and inspection of functional nanostructures.  

Reactor Institute Delft
The Reactor Institute Delft (RID) together with the department Radiation, Science & technology has been the Dutch knowledge centre for radiation-related research and education for over 50 years. The RID operates a unique research facility: the HOR nuclear reactor. In addition, RID has radiochemical laboratories. On the RID website information can be found on RID Services and RID facilities.

Multi Model Agents for Imaging and Therapy
The Multi Model Agents for Imaging and Therapy group is active within the section of Biocatalysis of the Department of Biotechnology.  Research explores the chemistry of medical diagnosis and works on the development of novel agents for imaging, therapy and combinations thereof (Theranostics).  The emphasis lays in organic synthesis, nanotechnology,  radiochemistry, and advanced NMR methodologies.  

Serious Gaming Lab
The faculty  of Technology, Policy and Management has a serious game production and support lab. It supports academic staff with the laborious technical production of serious games and software applications. It provides indispensable services and technical support for running serious gaming-simulation session with clients and in education. The Lab is highly equipped with state of the art game technology, hardware and software.

Delft Design Labs
The Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering offers its state-of-the-art facilities for cooperation with external partners. More information on the Delft Design Labs can be found on this website.

Aerospace Engineering
The facilities at the faculty of Aerospace Engineering are used for experiments generating unique and essential data for research but they are also used in education. Practical exercises are an essential part of the curriculum. The faculty has a complete range of high-tech facilities at the disposal of students and researchers. The faculty is open for sharing these facilities on an university level and will actively cooperate with other faculties.

Geoscience & Engineering Laboratory
The Laboratory of Geoscience & Engineering is equipped with highly advanced instrumentations and set-ups to qualify and quantify chemical and physical processes in rocks and soils under deep and shallow in-situ conditions. In this way the laboratory significantly contributes to research and education of the department and provides multi-level experimental support in designing, development, manufacturing, and maintenance of experimental equipment and instrumentation.

The Microlab of the faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences is a fundamental research lab in which the projects have strong links with experimenting & modelling. Cement-based systems (e.g. concrete) is our primary area of research. Co-operation in research on other building materials can be discussed. Interest and experience in the Microlab research is driven by predicting material behaviour through understanding microstructure formation.

Medical Delta Research infrastructure
The research facilities available within the Medical Delta region have been grouped on this page. They are classified under the four research themes: targeted molecular technology, medical imaging and image-guided medicine, interventions and care, and vitality.
