How does soil life affect food quality and human health? What is regenerative agriculture? How can we change the way we look at our daily food and make the transition to more sustainable, seasonal, and local food systems? These are the topics of the online meeting of the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Centre for Sustainability: ‘From invisible soil life to visible change: transforming food and health.’

Community Regenerative Futures

The LDE Centre for Sustainability has built a community in which a diverse group of researchers and practitioners explore how regenerative principles can be applied in different disciplines and how the transition to a regenerative society—a society that actively restores, replenishes, and improves the systems on which it depends—can be made.

Current approaches to sustainability focus on minimizing harm: less pollution, lower emissions, and greater efficiency, while maintaining the status quo of ecosystems, economies, and communities.

Nature's self-healing capacity

A regenerative society values resilience and nature's self-healing capacity. Instead of merely surviving or limiting damage, it actively creates the conditions for a flourishing life—for both humans and non-humans.

dr. Emilia Hannula

The shift from sustainability to regeneration requires more than just innovation and policy change. It calls for a fundamental transformation in how we think, interact, and act. The Regenerative Community explores practical, cultural, and systemic solutions to enable this transition.

Webinar: Regenerative Dialogues

Aphra van den Berg

Every two months, the Community organizes Regenerative Dialogues, a webinar series that brings together voices from different disciplines to explore what regeneration means and how it can be put into practice. Join this unique online conversation with scientists and other experts!

On Thursday, February 26 (12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.), Dr. Emilia Hannula (Center for Environmental Sciences, Leiden University) and Aphra van den Berg (Province of South Holland) will discuss:

  • What is regenerative agriculture?
  • What impact does this have on nature, food, and health?
  • What is meant by sustainable food systems?
  • How can people reconsider their choices and switch?
  • What information is important in a transition to nature-friendly food?
  • Other questions raised by participants

You are most welcome!
