On 9 February the first Master of Science (MSc) graduates in Cyber Security in the Netherlands graduated at the Campus of The Hague Security Delta (HSD), the national innovation centre in The Hague and home of the leading security cluster in Europe. The Master's programme Cyber Security was developed by the University of Leiden, Delft University of Technology and The Hague University and several private partners. Professionals (computer scientists, lawyers, policy makers) from a variety of public and private organisations celebrated their successful completion of the innovative and multidisciplinary master programme, with a seminar and a ceremony of celebration.

The Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Centre for Safety and Security (LDE-CSS) works in cooperation with the Cyber Security Academy (CSA). A very interesting research published by drs Herbert Leenstra under supervision of LDE-CSS founder prof. Jan van den Berg. The research has been widely reported in the media. The research shows that current implementation of connected vehicles is not cyber secure.

Researchers at the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) and TU Delft have developed a web portal that serves to advance brain research. Using BrainScope, researchers can quickly and interactively explore gene activity in the brain. “BrainScope reveals patterns that you would otherwise never notice,” says Prof. Boudewijn Lelieveldt (Medical Delta professor and affiliated with LUMC and TU Delft).

The healthcare insurers DSW and Zilveren Kruis have signed a contract with HollandPTC for proton therapy. This makes the radiation treatment available for around four and a half million insured patients. HollandPTC is a partnership of Erasmus MC, LUMC and TU Delft.

On 11 January the first joint degree certificates of the Life Science and Technology (LST) and Molecular Science and Technology (MST) programmes were presented to eight students. Both programmes are offered jointly by Leiden University and Delft University of Technology. The joint programme MST is offered since September 2006, LST since 1999.
