GoFrugal Bulletin on research into new forms of innovation

GoFrugal Bulletin Frugal Innovation Africa

The Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Centre for Frugal Innovation in Africa (CFIA) is a collaborative research centre between Leiden University, TU Delft and Erasmus University Rotterdam, that studies and documents frugal innovation: innovations that offer smart, simple and affordable solution. CFIA recently released a bulletin full of articles and developments in this new and relatively unknown form of innovation

Frugal innovation and Small & Medium Enterprises

The bulletin is a representation of the Centre's activities in the areas of education, research and knowledge exchange. In addition to a focus on the southern hemisphere, especially on Africa, the CFIA is also increasingly focusing on activities in Europe and Zuid-Holland. An example of this is the collaboration with the Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship, together they are developing a pilot program for SMEs on how to apply frugal innovation in their business operations.

Edward Elgar publication frugalHandbook on Frugal Innovation

The bulletin also provides insight into upcoming activities. An exceptional project is a handbook on frugal innovation that will be published by Edward Elgar in mid-2021. The authors of this book represent a multitude of disciplines, including innovation studies, classical history, economics, development studies, anthropology, industrial design and technology studies, philosophy and ethics.

Stimulating dialogue between scientists

The chapters are a collection of current themes and debates about frugal innovation. The CFIA hopes that the juxtaposition of chapters in this handbook will lead to a debate and dialogue between scientists, both within and outside the field of frugal innovation studies, as well as within and between the different socio-economic regions of the world.
