Impulse health & technology research with nine new Medical Delta professors

Dual appointment for professors at Erasmus University, TU Delft and Leiden University

Medical Delta Nine professors are now allowed to call themselves ‘Medical Delta professors’. They received a dual appointment at two or more academic institutions in the province of Zuid-Holland (LUMC, Leiden University, TU Delft, Erasmus MC, Erasmus University) that are affiliated with Medical Delta. This will boost health & technology research once again.

The professors are committed to interdisciplinary research at the intersection of care and technology.

For example, they are investigating how cartilage can be made using technology, how electrodes help to sharpen the cause of cardiac arrhythmias and how proton therapy can attack cancer cells very accurately.

Technological solutions for a sustainable care

The objective of Medical Delta is to realize technological solutions for a sustainable care. Medical Delta does this by interdisciplinary scientific research and practical field and living labs. This way, Medical Delta helps to improve health care and keep it accessible and affordable; a necessity given the increasing demand for care.

Good cooperation between engineers, clinicians and health experts is crucial. Only then will technological innovations meet the needs of healthcare practice.

Prof. Dr. ir. Ton van der Steen, chairman of Medical Delta, emphasizes the importance of good cooperation between engineers, clinicians and health experts. “That is crucial. Only then will technological innovations meet the needs of healthcare practice. These nine professors excel at that, which is why they have been appointed Medical Delta professors. ”

It is the third time that Medical Delta professors have been appointed. The nine new professors join the thirteen active Medical Delta professors appointed by academic institutions in previous years.

The new Medical Delta professors introduce themselves and their research in a short video. This can be viewed here

Medical Delta

Medical Delta is an interdisciplinary collaboration consisting of more than 280 scientists from Erasmus University, Erasmus MC, TU Delft, LUMC, Leiden University and universities of applied sciences. Together with companies and governments, Medical Delta realizes technological solutions for healthcare. Medical Delta does this with thirteen interdisciplinary scientific programs and with practical oriented field and living labs. By doing so, Medical Delta forms the hub of the Health & Technology ecosystem in the provence of Zuid-Holland and beyond. More: https://www.medicaldelta.nl/en
