The Leiden-Delft Erasmus (LDE) Alliance is a collaboration between Leiden University, TU Delft, and Erasmus University Rotterdam. Through this collaboration, lecturers can join selected teacher training courses offered by the partner universities. This collaboration allows lecturers to learn from colleagues at another university and to explore training opportunities that may not be available at their own institution. This autumn, we highlight the theme of student motivation and engagement. Many lecturers recognise moments when students seem less involved, hesitate to participate, or need more support to stay on track. The trainings below each look at this theme from a different angle.
Erasmus University Rotterdam: How to supervise students
Good supervision can help students stay motivated during longer assignments, projects, or thesis work. In this MicroLab, you explore how to support students through active listening, clear communication, and constructive feedback. The training offers practical models that you can use in your own supervision practice.
Leiden University: Inclusive education: Teaching for diverse classrooms
Student engagement is also shaped by the classroom climate. In increasingly diverse classrooms, teachers encounter students with a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, identities, and learning needs. This training explores how inclusive teaching practices can help create a learning environment in which all students feel valued, supported, and able to participate. Participants will reflect on their assumptions and develop practical strategies for teaching diverse student groups.
TU Delft: Stepping into your student’s shoes through VR
In TU Delft’s VR Empathy training sessions, you experience educational situations from a student perspective through VR. This autumn, several themes connect directly to student motivation and engagement. In The disengaged student, you explore what may be behind low participation or withdrawal. Personal situation focuses on situations where students and lecturers have different ideas about roles, responsibilities, or support. In Provocative student behaviour, you reflect on how to respond when classroom interaction becomes challenging, while Age differences explores how different life stages and experiences may influence participation and connection in the classroom.
Together, these trainings offer practical ways to look at student motivation and engagement, while also giving you the chance to learn with lecturers from Leiden, Delft, and Erasmus.
