On Thursday 16th of April, Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Global Heritage and Development organises an afternoon event focusing on understanding and conserving historic public open spaces in the Netherlands. Various academic disciplines from Leiden University, Delft University of Technology, and Erasmus University Rotterdam come together here.
Beyond building-oriented conservation
This event goes beyond traditional, building-focused approaches to heritage conservation and aims to emphasize:
- society-oriented perspectives
- collective memory
- narratives
- participatory processes
Dr.Ir. Gerdy Verschuure, coordinator from the faculty of Architecture TU Delft: 'We want to discuss new approaches and innovative strategies for sustaining the cultural significance of historic squares, streets, and parks that are under the pressure of rapid urban transformation.'
We want to combine the expertise of scientists and practitioners.'
'We want to rethink the meaning, value, and conservation of historic public open spaces. We want to combine knowledge of scholars and practitioners, in the broad range of history, heritage, design, and governance, including among other architects, planners, designers, archaeologists, and anthropologists.'
